Wampold's work shows that there is no evidence that any particular therapeutic
methodology is more helpful than others. According to his studies, what is more
important than your methodology, instead, are certain relational factors. His
studies point to three elements that consistently influence outcomes:
• A real relationship
• Expectations created through explanations
• A working alliance
These categories resonate with my experience. A relevant question now is: what
constitutes a real relationship? One image that is meaningful to me regarding this
question is from the movie Avatar by James Cameron. Here, the Na9vi people
greet each other with the phrase:
