David:
Dustin gets parents to look out for him. (Once again dutifully writing
this down on my pad.) Oh dear, this is dangerous & unless he can
always have either or both of you around?
Mother:
That's what we tell him. We won't always be there. In fact, I don't
think he really looks out for himself.
David:
Can I tell you something, Dustin? If you get your mum and dad to do
all the detective work on your asthma, asthma will very likely trick
you. Do you follow me? It will out-trick you. It will play tricks on you,
and some of those tricks could be deadly tricks. Do you know what I
mean?
Dustin:
Yah. (Uttered with what seemed to me to be a measure of
agreement.)
David:
Did you think it was better to rely on your mum and dad instead of
relying on yourself? Or you9ve just never thought of it?
Dustin:
Yah, I9ve never thought about it. (Spoken somewhat ruefully)
David:
Say you were playing football right now (I had learned he played
football.) and you've got asthma on one side and Dustin on the other
side. It9s the end of the first half, what would the score be?
Dustin:
5-2 for asthma. (Spoken softly and humbly)
David:
Say you were playing and someone from the other team came
towards you dribbling the ball and you said:
