At this point in the conversation, Sandrine began to question how well she
listened to herself, her mental load, and the fact that she would like to be listened
to more, particularly within her family. She has two young children, and like many
women, she is the one who takes care of them in the evening, feeds them, bathes
them, puts them to bed, etc. She talked about her work-life balance and started
to consider reorganising her working hours. She talked about being listened to
and listening to herself as a vital need for her, 8in order to exist9.
We concluded with the idea that she needed to listen to herself and let go of the
pressure, including within her family. This conversation highlighted that the issue
was not only that she did not feel listened to at home, but also that the system in
which she currently worked did not—or no longer did—correspond to her values.
Listening and building relationships are values and skills that enable her to feel
when tension arises during meetings and to respond in a simple way, such as
offering a glass of water, and to take care of others, including her colleagues.
